Three weeks to go and the City Of Alexandria Winter League could see an epic pileup of teams at 3 or 4 losses likely battling for one or two spots........the Monstars aren't yet ready to go away......the Ballers made a dramatic stand....... Squad looks like they have a bead on the regular season title, depending how G-Men fares with the league review of their game this past week.
Leaders of the Pack
#1 Squad (6-1) A new leader at the top of the board, as The Squad takes over the number one spot with G-Men losing their first of the year. Could go down to the wire, with Squad losing any tiebreaker to G-Men in their only loss of the season. They get the chance to put a stamp on the top spot this week, with an important game against ASC, who is trying to elbow their way into the playoffs.
#2 G-Men (5-1) - G-Men fell at the hands of the Green Dot Ballers and may have more trouble on the way if their starting point guard is lost for any amount of time due to disciplinary review by the league after a technical foul and a post game argument with the officiating crew. A big matchup this week with #3 Self-Check will be pivotal to the playoff race.
#3 Self-Check (5-2) - After a big win against GDB last week, Self-Check had a chance to push past G-Men and angle for the #1 spot with Squad, but an upset loss to Monstars leaves them in a precarious position. Two of their last three games are against the two teams currently ahead of them in the standings. They cannot afford to drop to 4 losses or they may be on the outside looking in.
Challengers
#4 Monstars (5-2) - Monstars put the league on notice that they will not roll over as their schedule ramps up in difficulty. A big win over SC has them thinking playoffs. They still control their own destiny with big matchups the last two weeks of the season against G-Men and Durangos. They would be wise not to look too far ahead with the always frisky Bullets up next.
#5 ASC (5-3) 3 losses are to top 4 teams. If they lose to Squad this week, they could find themselves without a playoff chair when the music stops, as it is looking more and more that 4 losses is going to be one too many to get a shot at the title.
#6 (tie) Durangos (4-2) Held serve with a forfeit win last week. One more win should be in the books this week against the bottom of the standings Kearney team, then three big games in six days to finish the season against GDB, Self-Check and Monstars.
#6 (tie) GDB (4-3) - Ballers showed pride in making a stand against the previously undefeated G-Men. They can't ease up the next two weeks against the bottom of the standings. If they take care of business then that will likely setup a de facto play-in game with the Durangos.
Back of the Pack
#8 Bullets (3-4) - Blown out by the Squad, Bullets still have a chance to play spoilers throughout the rest of the season with games against Monstars, ASC and G-Men.
#9 Joy Boys (2-6) - Joy Boys finally broke their losing streak, which had extended to six games, with a close win over the Big Ballers (47-42).
#10 Big Ballers (3-5) - Just missed out on a win against the Joy Boys and face tough matchups against GDB and SC to finish the season.
#11 Kearney (0-7) - showdown with Generals in the final week of the season might be the only win on the schedule.
#12 Generals (0-6) - New team in the league finding out that the level of play in Rec division is still strong. Looking towards final week showdown vs. Kearney.
Games to watch this week -
3/5 Self-Check vs. G-Men - Self-Check could battle for top seed or find itself out of the playoffs depending on the outcome of this game. G-Men will look to avoid back to back losses after their 5-0 start.
3/5 Squad vs. ASC - Squad looking to keep their grip on newly attained #1 spot. ASC trying to stay in the playoff hunt. A 4th loss would be damaging to their hopes.
Standings Key
Green means a win, Red means a loss, yellow is the game this week.
There are 10 games and 11 opponents for each team, so the column to the right is the team that is missed in the rotation.
