Game Summary
The summer league opener found the Green Dot Ballers facing off with Self-Check in the first rec division game since the pandemic shortened winter session in March of 2020. The redshirts are one of the few teams that own a winning record against the Baller dynasty entering the game with a 3-1 record in head to head matchups. (Ed. note - the one loss was in the semi-finals of winter 2019)
The Ballers sprinted out to a quick start, as captain Chris Larson took the opening tip in for a layup that fueled an initial 8-0 run that gave GDB control of the game. While Self Check never caught up to Green Dot during this game, they proved a worthy competitor, as each time the lead made its way to double digits, Self Check would answer with outside shooting to keep the pressure on. The Green Dot Crew went on an 11-2 run in the second half to go up 44-30 and seemed to be thinking of running away to hide, but once again Self Check wouldn't go away. A 12-3 response cut the lead to 51-49 as the 2 min mark approached and led to the key possession of the game. On the key possession of the game, Will Harris tipped an offensive rebound to Chris Larson who was fouled and went to the line and knocked down two free throws to make it a two possession game. Strong execution and a handful of free throws secured the win for the Ballers.

Headlines
AC cools down the summer heat - The Green Dot Ballers found themselves severely undermanned due to a variety of absences. However, Aaron "AC" Curtis proved to be just the right unit to plug into the Green Dot Squad. With a game reminiscent of injured Baller star Ed Reddick, Curtis led the way with 15 points on a variety of drives and putbacks. His 12 first half points and game high 4 steals provided a strong foundation for the Ballers to get the season opening win.
Reamy the sniper - Considering he is one of the all-time City of Alexandria league 3 point bombers, it boggles the mind that teams forget the scouting report and lose track of Mike Reamy. The Ballers co-captain started the summer off right, splashing in four of his six attempts on a series of patented curls and flares.
More coffee for this closer - As Alec Baldwin's character in Glengarry Glen Ross said - "Coffee is for closers only." Will Harris, the resident closer for the Ballers, once again led the way to victory in the clutch. He scored 13 of his 15 points in the second half, had the previously mentioned offensive rebound on the key possession (as show in the video below) and scored seven of the last ten points to secure the win.
MVP
Twin Towers - Guest player Aaron Curtis left his mark inside, especially in the first half and his partner in the paint Will Harris dominated the second half leading the Ballers to the win.
Up Next
Joy Boys (0-1) 7:00pm - A rebooted Joy Boys team got off to a slow start in week one, scoring just 33 points. They will need to do much better than that when they renew the featured rivalry with Green Dot.
