As we reach the finish line of the sprint that is summer league, the first summer session to require qualification is upon us. Four of the six teams will qualify for the playoffs. With Straight Cash and Team Chaos having already qualified with their 4-1 records, the remaining four teams will battle it out for the last two spots. First let's take a look at the standings after five weeks of play.
The schedule this week features the following matchups
7pm - G-Men vs Straight Cash
8pm - Green Dot Ballers vs Team Chaos
9pm - JBM vs DC Warriors (Joy Boys)
The results of the 7pm game will provide GDB and Joy Boys with clarity on the stakes of their games. A loss by G-Men, means that wins for the Ballers and the Boys advance them to the playoffs. G-Men and JBM would have 4 and 5 losses respectively, while the long time rivals would be tied record-wise at 3-3, Green Dot would win the head to head tiebreaker to get the third seed and an immediate rematch with week six opponent Team Chaos. In fact, if G-Men loses, and GDB win, it doesn't matter what Joy Boys do.
G-Men Loss + GDB Win + Joy Boys Win of Loss = GDB 3rd seed vs Team Chaos 2nd seed in semis
If G-Men pull off another upset performance against Straight Cash like they did in the winter semi-finals earlier this year, then the Ballers could still get to the playoffs with a loss by the Joy Boys. Things start to get tricky with tiebreakers coming into play if all three teams win.
G-Men Win + GDB Win + Joy Boys Loss = GDB 4th seed vs Team Chaos 1st seed in semis
If all three of G-Men, GDB and Joy Boys win, then it will come down to tiebreakers, and since the head to head is tied with G-Men beating GDB (by 10) and GDB beating Joy Boys (by 3) and Joy Boys beating G-Men (by 5) it will go to point differential, then GDB loses with a -7 total difference.
G-Men Win + GDB Win + Joy Boys Win = GDB misses playoff on tiebreaker
Same thing happens if all three lose
G-Men Loss + GDB Loss + Joy Boys Loss = GDB misses playoff on tiebreaker

Bottom line - The path with the best chance to advance is hope that G-Men is losing when we show up and then take care of business for ourselves vs Team Chaos.
