Game Summary
As is often the case in this long running rivalry, a tight contest featured the teams trading runs, the Joy Boys registering a technical foul and a score that was tight into the last minute. Neither team could find the basket consistently in the first 15 minutes, with The Ballers holding a slight 10-9 lead. A 7-0 run put them up 19-12, but the Joy Boys responded with a 7-2 run of their own to take the game into halftime down 21-19. The second half brought more of the same, with Green Dot falling behind 30-28 with 9:33 play. After tying the score at 32 with a pair of Charlie Jones FTs, Danny Abatemarco hit the shot of the night. His 3 pointer from the wing gave GDB the lead for good. They hit their FTs down the stretch (8-10) to secure the 45-39 victory.
Headlines
Eagles fly high - The pair of AU alumni led the way for the Green Dot Crew tonight, as Tony Wroblicky and Charlie Jones were the leading scorers with a combined 21 points. Wroblicky did his usual damage in the paint and at the line, while Jones slashed his way through the lane to get buckets and free throws of his own. Combined with their defense, the Ballers were in great hands with this tandem.
Few and far between - The Ballers made just 2 of 20 long distance shots and had missed 15 in a row when Danny Abatemarco stepped up to hit the biggest shot of the game. His three pointer gave the Ballers a lead that they would not relinquish the rest of the way.
Crunchtime finishes continue - The Green Dot Ballers have shown a knack for the finishing kick. In six of their seven games and five of their six wins that have won games that went down to the last minute. In each game they won, the Ballers were trailing at some point in the second half, but still won the game.
