BearingPoint select team wins KPMG NYC invitational tourney

Writer: Chris LarsonChris Larson

Time for a stroll down memory lane.......Found some old video and decided to throwback to an old work tournament. In April of 2004, I ended up as part of a team representing BearingPoint in a tournament amongst a variety of mid-atlantic teams from various KPMG offices. I don't really recall how I even ended up in the mix with these guys, but I do remember the outline of weekend and as you can see from the pic, the weekend was a success!

Heather and I drove up from DC to NYC on a Friday afternoon, and arrived in a rainy city and headed out to dinner. I don't recall where we ate that night, but it was near a theater and as we headed back to our hotel, we ran across Sean "Puffy" Combs exiting that back after his latest performance in the play A Raisin in the Sun.

On Saturday morning we headed over to Baruch College, which is in the heart of Manhattan at E25th and Lexington. I don't recall having played much, if at all, with most of the other guys, prior to meeting them that day, but we came together over the course of the 3 games on saturday, finishing off with a blowout win in our third round robin game and entered the knockout round for Sunday feeling pretty good about life.

Heather and I grabbed dinner near Radio City music Hall that night and then went to see the show Aida featuring R&B singer Deborah Cox. Went to bed early in anticipation of another hoops filled day of progressing through the bracket.

On Sunday, we were up early again and headed over to the gym at Baruch. We won our quarterfinal game pretty easily and then survived a tough semi-final game. We headed to the final with great momentum and were now fully in synch with each of our roles on the team.

Looking back at the film, I ended up having a great championship game and we came away with the title! A quick, fun and basketball packed weekend was the one of many highlights in a whirlwind year. A month later we would find out that Heather was pregnant, I turned 30 in August and then we were on the way to Carter being born! What a fun year!!
